1 Sequence of genera and species generally follows Bertelli et al. (2002) [Bertelli, 2002 #292] and Bertelli & Porzecanski (2004) [Bertelli, 2004 #10777]. Although the family is separated into two major clades, roughly corresponding to the traditional subfamily designations (Tinaminae and Nothurinae/Rhynchotinae), the position of Rhynchotus is unclear; see both these papers and Silveira & Hofling (2007) [Silveira, 2007 #10842]. Subfamily circumscription awaits additional data.
