1 Moyle et al. (2006) [Moyle, 2006 #9981] placed this in a clade with the Malaconotidae; Fuchs et al. (2012) [Fuchs, 2012 #14689] with broader taxon sampling confirmed apparent relationships to the Malaconotidae and the Aegithinidae.
2 The original family-group name proposed by Mayr & Amadon (1951) [Mayr, 1951 #6996] was Pityriasidinae; which has been correctly emended form to Pityriasidae by Wolters (1977) [Wolters, 1977 #4262], who brought the name into use so that if it had not previously been validly introduced it is sustained by Art. 13.2.1 of the Code (I.C.Z.N., 1999) [I.C.Z.N., 1999 #2059]. See also Hachisuka (1953) [Hachisuka, 1953 #10475].
3 The spelling Pityriaseinae given by Bock (1994) [Bock, 1994 #398] was not that used by the authors he cited.
4 Mees (1994) [Mees, 1994 #2636] showed that Livr. 97 appeared in Apr. 1836 or later; see also Dickinson (2001) [Dickinson, 2001 #1369].
