1 Barker et al. (2004) [Barker, 2004 #218] and Beresford et al. (2005) [Beresford, 2005 #277] found Promerops closely related to Modulatrix. The phylogenetic tree presented in Fig. 2 in Johansson et al. (2008) [Johansson, 2008 #10998] permits the grouping of the genera included here and supports the restoration of the genus Arcanator.

3 Treated as a species of the bulbul genus Phyllastrephus in Rand & Deignan (1960) [Rand, 1960 #3196]; but later seen as a thrush as by Benson & Irwin (1975) [Benson, 1975 #273] and Irwin & Clancey (1986) [Irwin, 1986 #2081]. The genus is supported by the molecular findings of Johansson et al. (2008) [Johansson, 2008 #10998]; but see Dowsett & Dowsett-Lemaire (1993) [Dowsett, 1993 #1416].
