1 Family name proposed by Wolters (1980) [Wolters, 1980 #4264] was without a diagnosis or description but in line with Art. 13.1.2 of the Code (I.C.Z.N., 1999) [I.C.Z.N., 1999 #2059], in his Nachträge he provided a bibliographic reference to George (1962) [George, 1962 #10411]. It is understood that the descriptive content in there being judged sufficient by Wolters to differentiate a family suffices for acceptance of the family name.
2 Only Groth (1998) [Groth, 1998 #1834], later cited by others, has provided any molecular information (limited to mtDNA) and further studies are needed.
3 Contra Chesser et al. (2011) [Chesser, 2011 #12822] the type species is neither Sylvia taeniata Du Bus, 1847, nor Sylvia olivacea Vieillot, 1817. See Zimmer (1948) [Zimmer, 1948 #15633] who made clear that the type species is that named by Giraud, and gave Giraud's type locality as 'Texas = Las Vegas, Vera Cruz, Mexico'.

6 Zimmer (1948) [Zimmer, 1948 #15633] considered the type locality to be one of the places in Oaxaca called San Pedro. This has been disputed and a point further east has been accepted, given as San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas by Banks (2011) [Banks, 2011 #13286].
